Tile Parade Part One

Tile Parade Part One

I have a quite few tiles to share with you. If you’ve dropped by, please leave a message to let me know. Comments are golden!

I’ve been going through my tangle book (more on that soon) and tangling some early patterns I learned before becoming a CZT. You’ll see a lot of similar tiles yet different all together. One of the many joys of Zentangle is that you can do the same tangles with no or only slight variations (“tanglations”) and never have the same work of art twice. That is never so evident as when I teach a class and the students’ tiles are placed into a mosaic!

Here are the start of the Tile Parade (click to enlarge):

First off, I participated in an ATC (Artist Trading Card) exchange with some people mostly located in The Netherlands. Here are some of my contributions…

I used Distress Ink to add color to the tiles before tangling on it.

Some of my “mac n cheese” tangles — old standby favorites.

The next entry will be my newfound love — ZenGems!

A pleasant surprise….

We hope you have had a special Thanksgiving day with family and/or friends and remembered to be thankful for all the liberties we have here in the United States of America. And for the great food, of course!
I love to see your Zentangle art and recently Blaine Street from my very first class sent me this great pumpkin that he made. Enjoy!

A Friendly Reminder…

The holidays are upon us, so schedules get full for many people. Because of this, we will make accommodations so here are our changes:
Heart Tanglers will meet THIS MONDAY at the Tazewell Public Library on Dec 14 from 6-8pm. These meetings are free and always a fun time of sharing our artwork, ideas, questions and info as well as good camaraderie. Bring your supplies for tangling or you can purchase from Kat (me) or David if you are getting low on tiles, pens or other things.
Please note that these meetings are for those folks who have already attended a class or who have some experience with Zentangle.

Remember…we will not be meeting on December 26th

A brand new American! Bear and the judge.

I coudn’t resist this photo!
He Did It!…

After a 15 year journey, my husband David (“Bear”) finally became a naturalized US CITIZEN! The Oath Ceremony was December 3 in Abingdon, VA. The photo above was taken as he received his certificate from the judge. THAT is what a new citizen looks like! He and 10 others were beaming after making America their official home. Bear is thrilled that he is going to be able to vote in the presidential election!
Wytheville Museum has contacted me and asked that I start teaching classes there Saturday, January 16 2016, 2-5 PM. I am willing to teach anywhere, including private or individual classes. I will also teach another Basics: Zentangle 101  at the Appalachian Art Center in January.
Please feel free to pass this email to those whom you think might want info on classes. Ask them to write to me at Heart.Tangles@gmail.com for more information or to be added to this newsletter mailing list.
And now, I’ll close with some recent tiles of my own….. I’ve created three new tangles which I will teach at the Monday meeting if anyone is interested.

Keep on Tangling!

Diva Challenge #222

Standard
Diva Challenge #222

“Colours of the Rainbow” is this week’s I Am The Diva Challenge , and I couldn’t be happier! I love color. No, you don’t understand- I looooooove color! I love it so much that I started an Instagram hub (group) called @jj_colorful… Do visit. (Also one for Zentangle @heart.tangles )

So, without further delay, here is my entry- it is a bookmark (my first ever) that I made for my very dear friend of 31 years (can that be right?!?!? Yep it is!) in Illinois who always gets my “firsts.” It was her idea that I Google “Zentangle” as I was frustrated and stuck in my creativity – or lack thereof. By far the best Google search of my life!

She even received and even framed my first attempt, which wasn’t an official Zentangle® tile but something entirely different. I forgot to take a photo of it but she sent me one:

Not very Zentangly but I gave it a serious try! And this pitcher was an accident! I simply closed my eyes and made one line. I close the line and started… And in a short time after turning it all ’round to tangle it, the pitcher emerged. It was quite apropos and a good symbol for our friendship.

So, without any further ado, here is my bookmark:

I’m sorry if it is too big! I can’t figure out how to make it smaller.

I thought I’d better get this completed and posted today since I leave early Saturday morning for RHODE ISLAND! I’ll be attending and hopefully graduating the CZT20. That’s Certified Zentangle Teacher training number 20. It is a 12 hour drive and complicated due to my disabilities and medical conditions but my friend of 5 years here in Appalachia will act as my assistant. I’m so excited I can’t even sleep more than 5-6 hours a night!

Happy Tangling,

Kat

Still Drawing my HeART out!

http://www.Etsy.com/shop/HeartTanglesStudios

a whimsical teapot! I started this with no plan whatsoever but after making th pie-like “slices” I was off! Wish I could have a cuppa! This is another drawing I wanted to throw away but my husband insisted I not do so.

More soon…

What I’ve been up to

What I’ve been up to

I have been drawing every day… I go to sleep thinking about art and wake up with drawing on my mind.

So without further ado, here are some of my projects.

This is a Zentangle tile. If you go to Zentangle.com you can read all about it.  What do you see in these two?

I’m a bird watcher and I photograph them nearly every day. Time to tangle them too!

A colorful Mandala

Here is another tangled tile. What do you see?

A tangled mandala, in pastel colors

And last is another mandala, simple but cheery.

Hope you are well and are creating from your heart!

Some Recent Artwork

Some Recent Artwork

Here are some Tangles I completed in the last week. There are a few more to post after these.

First, I created a Zendala (a mandala made with Zentangle patterns). This is large, about 8.5×11 inches.

Then I made a rose but thought it would look good in pink, so I tried it.

Do you like it with color or without? Next one may be yellow… Depending on how you vote!

Keep creating!

The Snowiest of Days

Standard

(I started this on Monday morning 2/16/15 and finished in the very early morning on Tuesday)

It is snowing like crazy! We are in a major winter storm. We are supposed to get 12-14″ of snow! It’s just a little after 10:30 in the morning and is already so horribly unsafe that my Personal Care Aide (PCA) couldn’t even stay– she came and brought some provisions and left. Our biggest concern is power. We just can’t without power since I’m on oxygen, but power outages are very common in bad weather. And snow isn’t the only problem! There are sub zero wind chills and single-digit or teen temperatures – and that’s in the daytime.

I did finish some more tangling last night: it is a kitty. I also started a new one of a snowflake shaped Mandala.

Later…
I totally messed up the snowflake, so I’m going to start another. It was impossible to fix because I was doing a mandala and well… Just trust me. But, it was great practice.

Here’s my work I drew the outlines and made sections…

IMG_3983

Then I filled it in the way that felt right.

IMG_3995
This Tangled Kitten is 5×7″. If you notice, her collar has hearts ✨💖💛💚💙💜✨ on it. All my work will have a heart (at least one) on it somewhere.

It is still snowing- at 11:30 PM the news said we had 11″ so far and would snow all night. The poor ladies (2 small dogs- Bella and Meesie (Mimi first but evolved) are having a terrible time doing what they need to do outside- the snow is taller than their backs!

I was approved by Etsy to change my store name so now it is HeART ️Tangles Studios. Now I need to post items. Oh, by the way, I called the framing place (Jan is the owner) and my bee pictures never got displayed, so obviously they haven’t sold. They are framed though. She will display them for sale until I sell them on Etsy, here, or in her shop.

These are the drawings, except the single lone bee wasn’t finished.

I’ve been very busy!

I’ve been very busy!

I have been drawing so much, and getting ready for the Honeybee Festival. Not only that, but I’ve registered to be a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT)! The founders, Rick Roberts & Maria Thomas, personally train each CZT. This is a big deal, as it is the ONLY place people can gain this certification. It has attracted perspective teachers from all over the globe. It is held in Providence RI so I will finally get to see the ocean, and go up the East Coast. As a result of being a CZT, I can teach classes anywhere in the world, and build a business doing what I love to do!

I have started a business called HeART Tangles Studios(R), which not only covers my art but my photography and fabric arts…anything I want to do. I have an Etsy store but I am asking to change the name to HeART Tangles.

Okay, let’s get caught up on my projects (most for sale).

Keeping with the butterfly theme, I did one that has a butterfly on top and moth on the bottom.

Bottom of duo.

Bottom of duo.

We got both the first large butterfly and this one framed by a great business near our town. Beautiful work on the matting and framing.

I will post more in the next few posts, but I want to share the two framed works.

Yellow Butterfly

Love how good the yellow mat looks on it- It looks better than I even hoped!

I hope you will let me know you were here, even if only to say hello and tell me what country or state you are from … comments are so lovely, like my readers!

Be good to yourself and let your creativity flow!

This Butterfly is Ready to Flit

This Butterfly is Ready to Flit

Hi Everyone!

I’m one happy artist because my  butterfly is finished and looks good to me….a rare thing!.

I plan to have this framed and put up for sale in Etsy if I don’t sell it beforehand. I don’t think I repeated any patterns within the whole piece. It was drawn on 98 lb mixed media 7″x10″ paper.

2015-01-31 17.55.10

Now, I have to decide what’s next! I think I’m going to work on some mandalas, but you never know until you put pen to paper, really.  By the way, I’, so frustrated because I ordered a bunch of art supplies on Jan3, and they have never shown up. I called the company but it seems the package has gotten lost in transit. The company (small) tells me they will make sure I get another one sent, but I’m still waiting. Grrrrr.

More soon,

Kat

The Butterfly

Standard
The Butterfly

I’m not done but wanted to share the WIP so far- not much longer now. Each section is intricate and I’d guess 95% of the patterns were drawn using a .005 Micron pen- tiny, tiny tip. This is approximately 9″x7″

Here are some photos:

I really was unsure about adding color- adding just one color seems to be my style. I have a style! Who knew?

Right now I’m writing this (how’s that for a now inappropriately used word… We aren’t writing as that involves using a pencil, pen or marker, etc o paper, chalkboard, even skin. Hmmm. I’ll come back to that!) on my phone and it hinders me from writing (sigh) fluidly.

And for those who wondered- I did not use color in the hummingbird but plan to copy it so I can color that one.

Enjoy and keep expressing yourself!
